Visiting risky hilly areas of Chittagong city

President of the Hill Management Committee and Divisional Commissioner Md Kamrul Hasan NDC and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman visited the risky hilly areas of Chittagong city.

Moti Jharna and other high-risk hilly areas in Lalkhan Bazar of the city were visited by Md Kamrul Hasan NDC, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner and Mohammad Mominur Rahman, Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong and District Administration at 10:30 am on Tuesday. Besides, officials of the district administration and the divisional commissioner’s office in Chittagong were also present.

During the visit, Md. Kamrul Hasan NDC, Chairman of the Hill Management Committee and newly joined Chittagong Divisional Commissioner, said that the risky hill areas have been visited today as there is a possibility of landslides due to the rains of the last few days.

Besides, instructions have been given to all concerned in the hill management committee to take effective steps to avoid possible loss of life and property in the risky hilly areas. The main reason for visiting is to find a permanent solution to prevent landslides. Discussions will also be held with all stakeholders on how to save the environment and protect the mountains. A proposal will be made to the government so that the same thing does not happen again and again.

“We are fully prepared to avoid possible damage and we are on high alert,” he said. People have already been evacuated from several areas living in the foothills. Those who remain will also be removed. In addition we will continue our regular monitoring. Besides, a massive publicity campaign is being carried out. He also said that the district administration will continue its ongoing campaign to remove the risky people in the hills.
