Drainage should not be obstructed — Mayor

SD Life:

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Bir Muktijoddha Alhaj M. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said the overall cooperation of the city dwellers is needed to make Chittagong a livable, citizen-free, environmentally friendly city. While working, it is essential to take steps on how to solve the identified problems and obstacles in the light of experienced concepts.

He made the remarks while inspecting the water flow obstruction through a large ditch adjacent to Gate 2 cemetery on Thursday evening, June 10.

He added that Chittagong is a hilly city. During the monsoon season, water comes down from the hills with a lot of water. In the drains where there is a little obstruction, the soil and sand that come down there causes waterlogging and increases the suffering of the people. A lot of water fell down the Nasirabad hill through the ditch next to the cemetery at Gate No. 2 and fell into the canal. Obstruction of the drain is one of the causes of waterlogging. He instructed the concerned department to take immediate action after checking the problem in the drainage of the said drain.

The mayor urged the city’s service agencies, especially WASA, T&T and Karnafuli Gas Authority to be vigilant so that there is no obstruction in the drainage of water through small and big culverts and drains.

Ward Councilor Nazmul Haque Duke, Md. Salimullah Bachchu, M. were present at the time. Ashraful Alam, Gazi said. Shafiul Azim and the mayor’s private secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem.
