Disconnected power connection in CDA order “half a hundred families in the dark”

Special Representative:

These families are without lights due to disconnection of electricity in a building in the operation of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA). The building has a total of 108 flats. Last Monday, the CDA removed some unauthorized parts of the building. The electricity connection of the building is disconnected from him.

Begum Mohiuddin’s wife, a resident of the second floor of the building, said, “Suddenly, the CDA raided our building.” We didn’t know anything before. Electricity has been cut off, there is no water. There are old people in the house, there are children. We are all in the dark. Even the slum dwellers are not disconnected in this way.

“We are living by buying flats from developers,” he said. A building was not built day by day. The CDA must have supervised on a monthly or regular basis. Now they have evicted the building on charges of illegal extension. But we who are in the building, we have no crime. Why our power connection will be cut off.

Mohammad Jane Alam has constructed a 12-storey building in Mughaltuli area with the approval of CDA. Although Jane Alam claims he has approved the 14-storey building. On Monday, CDA Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Saiful Alam Chowdhury led an operation to remove illegal parts of the building. The power connection was cut off before the eviction operation. Although the operation ended, the building was not connected to electricity. The building is home to more than 50 families. Most of the flats in the building have already been sold. As a result, flat buyers are in trouble. Although 7 days have passed since the disconnection, the PDB has not connected the building. These families are living without electricity.

The owner of the building, Mohammad Jane Alam, said the CDA had given me permission to build a ten-storey building first and then a fourteen-storey one. I built the building accordingly. But the CDA suddenly conducted an eviction campaign in my building. After the tenth floor, the rest was declared illegal, but the CDA also vandalized the lower part of my building. The power supply to the building has been cut off. We have more than 50 families in the building. Everyone has been in the dark for a week.

According to sources, Mohammad Jane Alam built a multi-storey building in Mughaltuli area. He submitted the design to the CDA for the construction of a residential cum commercial building on a total of 16 Ganda plots. The CDA approved the construction of a 10-storey building on the basis of BC Case No. 534/2 / 15-16. Mohammad Jane Alam received this design on 31 May 2016. After taking the design, he started the construction work of the building.

Mohammad Jane Alam sold flats to various people as the chairman of a development company called ‘Summer Holding Limited’. He explained the flat within the specified time of the construction work.

In the meanwhile, some flat buyers and the selfish quarters around know that Alam has various problems. The matter was taken up from the police station to the high court. Meanwhile, the CDA issued a notice to demolish the outer part of the design, alleging fraud in the construction of the flat. After receiving the notice, Mohammad Jane Alam went to the High Court and filed a writ petition (No. 9031/2019) against the CDA notice. Income tax lawyers Mohammad Abu Taleb, Mohammad Shahidul Islam and Abdul Gafoor represented the flat buyers in the petition filed against the CDA.

Jane Alam filed another writ petition (No. 945/2021). The court issued a two-month stay order. The CDA was informed in writing on the morning of June 08 through a lawyer. Jane Alam claimed that the CDA had approved a ten-storey building in the first phase but a 14-storey building in the second phase. Moreover, the eviction drive was carried out even after informing the CDA magistrate about the stay order of the court. The electricity connection of the building has been cut off.

Hossain Imran, executive engineer of PDB’s Agrabad zone, said, “The CDA magistrate has asked us to disconnect, so we have been disconnected.” The CDA did not ask me to reconnect. If the CDA asks us to install it again, we will install it.

Mohammad Jane Alam’s son Riyadh said about the matter, all the savings of my father’s life have been exhausted. A cycle has conspired against us. They succeeded. Even after getting approval, CDA has demolished our building in just one muscle. We have submitted the High Court order to the CDA through a lawyer. The next day the CDA vandalized our building.

“We are being held hostage by the CDA’s metropolitan magistrate,” he said. Seize our mobile phone, so that we can not communicate. They broke into our building with huge police and equipment. They didn’t give us a chance to take things out of the house. We have run out of savings.
