Not a single person will be homeless in the centenary of Mujib — Deputy Commissioner

Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said, “Not a single person will be homeless in the centenary of Mujib.” Following this, on January 23, 2021, the Hon’ble Prime Minister inaugurated the first phase of allotment of houses to 69,904 landless and homeless families across the country.

At that time, in the first phase in Chittagong district, 1,444 landless and homeless families were provided houses with 2 (two) percent land with full government funding. As part of this program, 53,340 landless and homeless families across the country will be provided houses in the second phase on Sunday, June 20, 2021. On that day, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the program through video conferencing. Homes will be provided to 749 landless and homeless families in 13 upazilas of Chittagong district in this grand program of Hon’ble Prime Minister. Hon’ble Prime Minister will be connected through video conferencing at Bahalpur village of Betagi Union No. 2 of Rangunia Upazila.

He said this at a press briefing held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner on Thursday, June 18, 2021 at 12 noon. Also present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) SM Zakaria, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mohammad Nazmul Ahsan, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Mosha: Sumni Akter, RDC Sujan Chandra Roy, Staff Officer to DC Umar Farooq, NDC and Executive Magistrate Masud Rana.

He added that 30 families are being rehabilitated in Bahalpur of Rangunia upazila. Various non-governmental organizations and individuals have now come forward to join this unique initiative of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Already 120 houses have been constructed in Chittagong district on private initiative. Besides, big industrial companies are giving grants to the Prime Minister’s Shelter Project. Soon houses will be built for the landless and homeless all over the country including Chittagong with private grant. According to the sample provided by the Asrayan-2 project of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Office, the acceptance documents, namjari, and the certificate of housing have been prepared to be handed over to each beneficiary in a separate folder.

A total of 749 houses have been prepared in 13 out of 15 upazilas of Chittagong district before the inaugural function. Among them 50 in Rangunia upazila, 30 in Patia upazila, 10 in Satkania upazila, 150 in Lohagara upazila, 14 in Banshkhali upazila, 20 in Boalkhali upazila, 246 in Raozan upazila and 10 in Hathazari upazila. 10 in Sitakunda upazila. Hon’ble Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Minister of Land, Hon’ble Deputy Minister of Education, Member of Parliament, Heroic Freedom Fighters, Prominent Political Personalities, Civil Society Representatives, Print and Print People of different classes and professions including media journalists.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest father of the Bengali nation of all time, united millions of people and established independent Bangladesh in the heart of the world. During his visit to Noakhali in February 1972, Bangabandhu took the initiative to rehabilitate the homeless for the first time. As the daughter of the Father of the Nation, Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the “Asrayan Project” in 1996 as the first government-funded initiative to rehabilitate the homeless after the formation of the 1st Government in 1996.

On the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, his daughter Hon’ble Prime Minister announced to provide housing to all landless and homeless families in the country. This example of providing land and houses to all landless and homeless families of the country through government initiatives is unique in the world. There is no other place in the world where so many landless and homeless people are given houses with land on the same day.
