6 killed and 20 injured in separate road accidents

Six people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in different parts of Chittagong city. The worst accident took place in Moizjartek area of ​​Karnafuli police station. Two people were killed and 18 others were injured in a head-on collision between a BRTC bus and a minibus at 3.30pm on Friday (June 18). The injured have been admitted to Chamek Hospital. The condition of 6 to 7 of them is critical. The death toll could rise further.

ASI Shilbrat Barua of Chamek Hospital police outpost told Daily Nab Desh Barta that doctors confirmed the deaths of two people after bringing 19 people injured in a road accident to Chamek Hospital. The rest have been admitted to the hospital. The condition of 6 to 7 people is critical. One of the dead was identified as Nurul Afsar. Besides, a 20-year-old youth was killed.

Karnafuli Police Station OC (Investigation) Ferdous told Daily Nab Desh Barta that the accident took place while trying to save an autorickshaw while taking a U-turn on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway. 25 to 30 people were injured in the accident. The condition of at least 5 of them is critical. Police and fire service members rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and sent them to Chamek Hospital. Two buses were severely damaged in the accident. The minibus is twisted. Some parts of the minibus had to be cut to evacuate the injured.

Police and eyewitnesses said an autorickshaw carrying gas from the Fossil Filling Station in Mizjartek was taking a U-turn from one side of the highway to the other at around 3.30 pm. Then a BRTC bus from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar came there. The speeding bus lost control and went to the other side of the road to save the autorickshaw. At that time, a minibus named New Karnafuli Enterprise coming from Patia towards Chittagong city collided head on.

Earlier on Thursday night, a young man riding a motorcycle died in an accident at the GEC junction of the Akhtaruzzaman flyover in the city. His name is Tamim. He was returning to his home in Hamzarbagh from Lalkhan Bazar on a motorbike. After reaching the GEC junction, the bike lost control and collided with the road divider. Doctors pronounced him dead after he was taken to Chamek Hospital in critical condition.
