Laxmipur District Representative:

Laxmipur district Awami League president Golam Farooq Pinkur’s car was attacked and the glass was vandalized.

The incident took place at noon on Monday (June 21) during the Torabganj UP election in Kamalnagar upazila of Laxmipur. District Awami League president Golam Faruk Pinku has blamed independent chairman candidate and current UP chairman Faisal Ahmed Ratan for the attack. He said six leaders and activists who were with him at the time were injured.

Awami League president Pinku said he visited the Awami League office in Kamalnagar during the Torabganj UP election. The office was about 900 meters from the polling station. Independent candidate Faisal Ahmed Ratan attacked him with people. The attackers blocked Pinku and other Awami League leaders at the party office. The police went and rescued them. The assailants smashed the glass of his car and smashed six motorcycles belonging to party leaders.

Witnesses said Awami League leader Pinku had been campaigning for Torabganj Union’s boat candidate Mirza Ashraful Jamal Russell from the very beginning. Russell’s rival candidate is current chairman Ratan (horse). Awami League leader Pinku was attacked in Torabganj at noon while inspecting the situation at the polling station.

However, independent candidate Faisal Ahmed Ratan said, “I was busy at the polling stations.” I was not at the center at the time of the incident. I don’t know who attacked Awami League president Pinkur’s car. However, Ratan countered that he had influenced the position of the boat in the polling booths during the voting.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kamalnagar Police Station Mosleh Uddin said a case of vandalism was pending.
