Top terrorist Jacob and three of his accomplices were arrested

Police have arrested three people, including Yakub and two accomplices, the main culprit of the clash between the two sides over hanging a signboard at the graveyard of Maulvi Bari under Bakalia Police Station in Chittagong.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vijay Basak made the announcement at a press conference at the CMP Deputy Commissioner’s (South) office on Friday (June 25) at 12:30 pm.

The three arrested are: Md. Yaqub (50), son of Haji Md. Islam Saudagar of Maulvi Abdul Gafur Road, Md. Osman Ali (35), son of late Habibur Rahman Prakash Abu of Balirhat Ghatkul Majhi Bari and Haji Malekuzzaman Saudagar of Balirahat Sanwara School. Masud Alam (36).

Deputy Commissioner Vijay Basak said three people, including Yakub and his two accomplices, had been arrested in connection with the clash over the hanging of signboards at the cemetery. The family members opened the family graveyard in Maulvi’s house for burial. But since Maulvi is a short distance from home, a local party has turned burial into a business.

CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Shah Mohammad Abdur Rauf, Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) Aminul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Chawkbazar Zone) Kamrul Islam were present on the occasion.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bakalia Police Station Ruhul Amin said the video footage identified those who had used weapons. On the basis of secret information, Yaqub was arrested from Jorarganj in Mirsarai with the help of the people after trying for about two hours. Land robbers Mohammad Osman Ali (35) and Mohammad Masud Alam have been arrested in different places of Dhaka Metropolitan Paltan Police Station.

He said the accused had hidden their weapons on the south side of the canal at the end of Abdul Latif Hatkhola Chandgazi Road around 12:15 pm on Thursday (June 24). A foreign pistol with magazines, two rounds of pistol ammunition and two long knives were recovered from there. A regular case has been filed against the arrested at the police station. They have been sent to court with a 7-day remand application.

Incidentally, on June 11, a graveyard was set up in the family graveyard of Bara Maulvi Bari on Kalamia Bazar Abdul Latif Hatkhola Road of Bakalia Police Station for free.
