Case against husband for housewife suicide

A housewife has committed suicide due to a family quarrel in Noakhali’s Sadar upazila. The housewife has filed a case against her husband for beating her husband to death and handing him over to the police.

The deceased was identified as Farhana Akter Priyanka, 28, daughter of Sala Uddin Paran of Paschim Char Uria village under Noakhali union of the upazila.

Salauddin Paran, the father of the deceased, filed the case with the Sudharam Police Station under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act on Friday (July 2) afternoon.

Police recovered the body of the slain housewife from Paschim Char Uria village in Ward No. 4 of Noakhali Union under Upazila No. 8 at around 4.15pm on Thursday. Earlier, at around 10:30 am on the same day, he committed suicide by hanging himself in his house without the knowledge of his family members.

According to locals, Priyanka’s husband Akhter Uddin Shaheen (30) lived with his wife in a house next to his father-in-law’s house. He is the son of Anwar Hossain of Sonadia village in Hatia upazila. When his wife committed suicide, the people of her father-in-law’s house accused her of killing her husband and hanging her body. Family members of the slain housewife beat Shaheen severely. Police later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy. At the same time, the husband of the deceased was rescued and is being treated at Noakhali General Hospital under police guard.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sudharam Police Station Mohammad Sahed Uddin confirmed the incident. He added that the deceased’s husband was being treated at Noakhali General Hospital under police guard. The victim’s father also filed a written statement against the accused husband on Friday afternoon under the Prevention of Child Abuse Act. The accused in that case has been sent to jail through the judicial court showing his arrest.
