SD Life:

Today, on the occasion of “International Plastic Bag Free Day” on July 3, the Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, Bir Muktijoddha Alhaj M. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury urged the city dwellers to refrain from using plastics, say ‘no’ to plastics and come forward to protect the environment.

He said that drains, canals, beels, rivers and seas are now replacing harmful plastics. Plastic is scattered all over the city and village roads. Most of these plastic bottles and polythene bags are being recycled and disposed of in the natural environment without recycling.

Leaving such harmful plastic bags or products in the country, people are bringing their own danger. Because, these plastics and their particles cause various deadly diseases in human body. These indigestible harmful plastic sewers are causing terrible waterlogging in the drains. Canals, rivers and seas are destroying biodiversity. It is causing terrible damage to water, soil and environment.

“If we use jute or cloth bags instead of plastic bags for daily necessities, waterlogging and environmental damage will be greatly reduced,” he added. “Let’s all get rid of plastic bags, prevent environmental threats,” he said.
