Instructions to take action against the contractor for alleged irregularities in the construction of Mujib’s house

In Noakhali’s Subarnachar Upazila, there have been allegations of irregularities in the construction of houses given as gifts by the Prime Minister to landless and homeless people on the occasion of Mujib’s centenary.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Arifur Rahman visited the collapsed house of Jasim Uddin, 30, of Hajipur village in East Charbata Union of the upazila on Tuesday afternoon (July 8).

Beneficiary Jasim Uddin, a disabled person, said, “On the occasion of Mujib’s centenary, the upazila administration also inscribed my name in the list of house building for the homeless and landless as a gift from Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

This is due to the incompetent contractor constructing the house. According to the amount of construction of the house, not using cement and sand, many parts of the back of the house collapsed at the beginning of the rainy season. At one point it was repaired, just a few days after the repair cracked again in different parts of the house.

Beneficiary Jasim’s wife Ranu (24) said, “My husband is disabled, he can’t do any work.” By running a small tea shop, the family somehow survives. There are two little boys and girls in the house, I was very happy to get the house given by the Prime Minister but it is very risky to stay in this house due to the way low quality construction materials have been used in the construction of this house and the cracks in the house.

He added that although the house has been officially allocated. But the contractor said it would take 16 bags of cement. Of these, 10 bags will be arranged by the contractor and the remaining 6 bags of cement have been asked to be given to us. He did some work in a loose way as he could not pay for the cement. The rest of the work is stopped. In addition, the three to four construction workers had to eat breakfast and lunch for a month in a row.

Subarnachar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Arifur Rahman visited the spot on the basis of the complaint. And assures that the houses complained of during the inspection will be repaired by the contractor. And said action would be taken against those who committed irregularities.
