Proposal to impose curfew
Instead of lockdown

Hossain Mintu:

The number of deaths due to the spread of coronavirus delta in the country is increasing rapidly. The rate of new infections and mortality is increasing every day. In such a situation, instead of the ongoing lockdown in the country to control corona, it is necessary to announce a strict program like curfew or section 144, said Prof. Dr. Robed Amin, Director of Non-Communicable Disease Control NCDC and spokesperson of the department.

On Thursday evening, he said that there was a severe lockdown in the country but it was not possible to control the movement or gathering of people. If the situation continues like this, it will be difficult to control the terrible infection of corona.

In this case, the people of the country are afraid of curfew or section 144 programs and try to comply. Giving such a program in this situation will be quite helpful in controlling the corona.

Earlier, the National Technical Advisory Committee on Kovid in the country recommended a two-week shutdown (all off) on Delta expansion. In view of this, the government imposed strict restrictions across the country for one week from July 1. 21 instructions were given. Apart from emergency services, other offices and courts are closed at this time, and carrying passengers in mechanical vehicles is also prohibited. However, industries are open in compliance with the hygiene rules and banks and financial institutions are open on a limited scale.

Police, RAB, BGB as well as the Armed Forces are on the ground under the ‘Army in Aid to Civil Power’ provisions to enforce the restrictions. The public is being barred from going out unless absolutely necessary. Failure to give a logical explanation on the street is punishable by arrest.

Although the ban has been in place for four days, there has been no visible improvement in the situation, but a new record in the number of victims and deaths. In this situation, the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid on Sunday recommended extending the ongoing ban for another week.

In light of that recommendation, the ban has been extended until midnight on July 14. The 21-point directive issued earlier was upheld even during the extended period of restrictions.

The highest number of patients has been identified in one day in Corona. In the last 24 hours, 11,851 people have been identified, which is the highest in a single day during the epidemic. Earlier, 11,172 people were identified last (July 8), and 11,525 people were identified in the previous 24 hours. More than 11,000 identified for three days in a row.

In the last 24 hours, 199 more people have died due to corona. The Department of Health reported a record 201 deaths in a single day last (July 6). The day after the death record (Thursday) was the record of identification.
