Truck driver shot dead in Sitakunda

Abdul Mamun, Sitakunda Mobile Representative:

A group of robbers shot dead the driver of a cattle truck on Bayezid-Bostami Ling Road in Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila. The incident took place near Bridge No. 4 of the road at around 4 am on Friday (July 18). At one stage, the robbers tried to loot the cows in the truck, but many vehicles immediately gathered on the road and the robbers fled. When the drivers of other vehicles called the emergency service number 999, the Sitakunda Model Police Station went to the spot and recovered the body of the truck driver and sent it to the morgue of Chamek Hospital for autopsy. The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, 48, of Chaugachha upazila in Jessore. After receiving the news, Chittagong Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque and Sitakunda Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Ashraful Karim went to the spot.
Ashraful Karim told Daily Nabdesh Barta that the owner of the cattle, Md. Milon Mollah, left Ganganaliya of Magura Sadar Upazila in a truck for Bibirhat Cattle Market in Chittagong on Wednesday (July 14) with 12 cows. The cow fell ill and died in the car. Then Milon Mollah, the owner of the cows, decided to bring the cows to Bibirhat in two trucks. So he rented Abdur Rahman’s car from Noakhali and put 4 cows in his car with a shepherd. Later he left for Chittagong in two trucks with cows. Abdur Rahman’s car was involved in an accident on Fauzdarhat Bayezid-Bostami Ling Road on Friday morning.
Elaborating on the incident, truck helper Ibrahim said a pick-up van stopped their vehicle as it crossed Bridge No. 4. At that time 2 robbers were standing on the left side of the truck and 2 robbers were standing on the right side of the truck. Later, a man got into the car with a pistol. At that time, the helper Ibrahim was asking the driver Abdur Rahman if he had hit a car somewhere. Enraged by this, a robber member shot the truck driver Abdur Rahman.

Meanwhile, Sitakunda Model Police Station OC Investigation Sumon Banik told Daily Nabdesh Barta that he got a call on 999 and rushed to the spot and recovered the body of truck driver Abdur Rahman. Truck helper Ibrahim told them that another vehicle was following their vehicle as it was traveling from Noakhali to Bibirhat. They may have been involved in the incident. No cows were looted in the incident, the truck driver said, adding that a murder case would be filed.
