Police have recovered the bullet-riddled body of a teenager six hours after he went missing in Noakhali’s Begumganj.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Rashed, 18, son of Tajul Islam of Alaiyapur village in Ward 5 of Alaiyapur Union.

Police recovered the bullet-riddled body of the teenager from the garden west of Ayed Ali Bhuiyan’s house in Hariballapur village of Ward 5 of Alaiyapur Union around 11am on Sunday (August 8).

The victim’s mother Purnima Begum and cousin Anwar said Rashed used to work as a construction worker in Dhaka. Comes home a few days ago due to lockdown. One night 5-6 days ago, Rashed was killed and his quarrel with Rubel, 30, son of Bechu Mia of the same house, started with a flashlight in the street in front of the house.

Following this incident, Rubel’s associates beat Rashed three times. Later, his family lodged a written complaint with the Begumganj police station. They became more enraged when the police came to investigate. This time Rubel’s associates Shakil, Sujan, Akbar, Maruf, Manju and their associates beat Rashed’s uncle Lokman Hossain. Rashed was missing from 10 pm on Saturday. Later, at around 8 am, locals found his body in the garden west of Ayed Ali Bhuiyan’s house, about 2.5 km from his house. The victim’s family claimed that the armed men of the same house grabbed Rashed and shot him in the head after he lodged a written complaint with the police. A local people’s representative is the patron of these murderers.

Begumganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Kamruzzaman Sikder said police visited the spot after receiving the information. The killers shot Rashed in the head at some point on Saturday night and dumped his body in a garden. The body was recovered from the spot. The body will be sent to the morgue of Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy. Legal action will be taken in this case later.
