A battery rickshaw driver named Mohammad Faruk (28) was stabbed to death in Chakaria area of Cox’s Bazar district.
Police recovered the body from the top of the railway line to be built at Jolar Para in Saharbil Union around 12:30 pm on Thursday (June 18). The deceased was identified as Mohammad Nurul Alam of Baraulia Nagar village under ward 1 of Kakara union of the upazila. Earlier on Wednesday night at around 12:15 pm, a local man saw the body and called the National Emergency Service 999. After receiving the news, the police launched a rescue operation. According to locals and police, the driver of Farooq’s rickshaw took her to the spot and stabbed her to death.
Chakaria police sub-inspector Sarwar Jahan Mehedi said the driver had stab wounds on his right side and left hand. A blood-stained knife was recovered from the side of the body.
Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaker Muhammad Jubayer said efforts were underway to unravel the mystery of the slain rickshaw puller’s murder. Preparations are underway to file a case on behalf of the family. The body was sent to the morgue in the morning for autopsy.
