A ship named MV Hang Gang-1 sank in the Sandwip Channel of Chittagong carrying goods from the Padma Bridge. The ship sank after colliding with another ship on its way to Munshiganj from Chittagong around 10am on Tuesday.
It is learned that the ship had cargo worth about Tk 16 crore weighing 1,200 metric tonnes for the Padma Bridge project. The process of recovering the goods has already started.
Executive Engineer (River Governance) of the Padma Bridge Project Mohammad Abdul Quader said it would be possible to recover all the goods from the sunken ship. Ships and cranes have already been sent for rescue. Naval police and coastguards are deployed to protect cargo and ships. He added that the sunken goods included tunnels and angles for the construction of walkways along the railway line.
The finishing work of these goods was also done. The price of one thousand 200 tons of material fell to about 16 crore rupees.
