Cocktail explosion in front of the bridge minister’s house, 5 cocktails recovered

The miscreants detonated a cocktail on the road in front of the house of Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at Basurhat in Noakhali’s Kompaniganj. No casualties were reported in the incident. However, police recovered 5 unexploded cocktails and 1 round of ammunition from the spot.

The cocktail blast took place on the Basurhat to Daganbhuiyan road in Bara Rajapur village of Ward No. 1 of Basurhat Municipality around 4pm on Monday (August 2). Companiganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saifuddin Anwar confirmed the matter. He further said that after receiving the news, Police and Companiganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Supravhat Chakma were at the spot. However, the OC could not say who or what caused the cocktail explosion at noon.

According to local sources, the followers of Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza are blaming the opposition leaders and activists of Quader Mirza for the incident. Companiganj Upazila A-League spokesperson Mahbubur Rashid Monju said it was a staged drama. Basurhat to Daganbhuiyan road, it is a regional highway. Quader Mirza wants to fish in muddy waters by repeatedly exploding cocktails on this road. At the behest of Quader Mirza from the United States, his followers carried out such incidents to destabilize Companiganj and to trap the leaders and activists of the opposition. At that time, he urged the police administration to look into the matter and reveal the real secret.

OC Saifuddin further said that several cocktails were exploded in the empty space of Basurhat to Daganbhuiyan road in front of the minister’s house. Police also recovered five unexploded cocktails and a cartridge from the spot. However, no casualties were reported in the incident. Upon receiving the news, the police immediately visited the spot.
